The Lake Placid Ironman 2010
The Ford Ironman Lake Placid is the premiere Ironman event in the continental US. Scheduled for July 25, 2010, this competition will feature over two thousand of the world’s elite athletes in a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike race and a full 26.2 mile marathon run.
The swim takes place in Mirror Lake right in the heart of Lake Placid. This is a great spectator course. The swim is a mass start with two loops around the course before exiting to the transition area to begin the bike race.
The bike run is also a two-loop event over smooth roads. There is a major 9km downhill, and the rest of the course is rolling hills and some climbing. Then it’s back to the transition area before the run.
The two-loop run course passes through the downtown area four times – great for spectators. This incredible route features some spectacular tree-lined river scenery, coupled with lakeside running. There are a few rolling hills, but overall athletes find this a fast, fair run course.
